Anwendung

Application

The Nose cone NK 63 is used fort he impairment of the wind noise when carrying out acoustic measurements in an air flow of high velocity directed axial to the microphone as well as for reducing the dependence of the propagation constant on the angle of incidence of sound at frequencies above 4 kc/s.
The adapter electrode is replaced by screwing the cone onto the standard microphone capsule MK 102.

Construction and Mode of Action

The signal-to-noise ratio is increased by the Nose cone by approx. 20 dB as compared with the adapter electrode. It can be seen that the dependence of the propagation constant on the angle of incidence of sound is essentially  reduced at frequencies between 4 an 9 kc/s with the NK 63 Model due to the Nose cone, thus having a combination available which, in practice, provides an omni-direction characteristic within the frequency range up to 9 kc/s. By doing this the frequency response within this range is linearized at measurements in the diffused sound field. The backing material of the Nose cone NK 63 favourable in regard to aerodynmics is provided laterally with sound input ports covered by a thin gauze.
The connecting thread corresponds to the one of the adapter electrode of the MK 102.
